This paper presents a real-time compound image compression algorithm for reducing frame memory by 75%. To compress synthetic images as well as natural ones, two types of table-based coders are proposed. Four differential pulse code modulation (DPCM) and variable length coding (VLC) based coders are used for natural images. Total six parallel different coders generate codewords. The best result of them is selected as a final codeword. The proposed image compression scheme is implemented in C language and average PSNR is 43.73㏈.
