Incorporating the "aha!" experience into the classroom and laboratory

The authors endorse the "aha!" experience as an important cognitive event in the teaching/learning process. It is important because it enhances performance in creative problem solving and creative design, and it can play a role in transforming learning from an activity of drudgery to one of enjoyment. It is pointed out that the "aha!" experience is not a substitute for preparation and diligence; it is a "value added" cognitive event that affects our performance. It is further noted that we can assist students in developing their ability to evoke the "aha!" and to enjoy it, whether in the classroom or in the laboratory, we may play a role in developing a generation of students that finds learning exciting.<<ETX>>
