ANALYSIS AND REDUCTION OF EFFECTS OF SINGLE-PHASE LOADS AND GENERATORS ON LOW VOLTAGE DISTRIBUTION GRIDS

Measured and simulated values of low voltage distribution grids often show discrepancy concerning energy loss and voltage drop or rise. A reason for this is the use of simple load-flow algorithms which do not consider the unbalance of these three-phase power systems caused by a multitude of single-phase loads and generators. This paper analyses the effects of unbalanced loading. A method to generate the necessary individual load profiles for each phase is proposed and simulations on a typical non meshed distribution grid are presented. With phase coordination a method to improve the balance is suggested.
