Design of a first-order microwave differentiator using modified ladder network

This paper presents a new design of microwave differentiators using a modified ladder network, which is based on the conventional lowpass filter network with an inserted series capacitor. The prototype network is synthesized using coupling matrix techniques in the lowpass domain, and is subsequently implemented using shunt-stub configurations by Richard and Kuroda Transformation. Numerical and experimental examples were provided to illustrate and validate the proposed approach. This modified ladder network and the corresponding synthesis approach will find potential applications in the microwave differentiator design.
