Group to Raise Industry Funds for Campus R&D.

For the third time in the past two years the nabobs of industrial and academic chemistry have met in solemn session to seek ways in which they may work together better for the common good. The first gathering, in Midland, Mich., triggered constructive debate but it was marked by suspicion and hesitancy on the part of the academics. The second meeting, in Bethlehem, Pa., brought progress but it also brought a clear realization that it wasn't going to be easy to work out the details of how such better cooperation could actually be achieved between those who conduct research for profit and those who do it as an intellectual exercise. The third meeting was held earlier this month in Rochester, N.Y., sponsored by the University of Rochester and Eastman Kodak.
