Research on the framework of navigation techniques for electronic map

Navigation technology as a necessary technical method to access information for human beings in the vast virtual information space,which plays an important role in guiding users to use the electronic map.The greatest contribution of this paper is to expand the narrow understanding on the electronic map navigation technology in the field of Cartography and Geographic Information Engineering in the past.It divided the electronic map navigation technology into six categories: display equipment,restructuring the information space,zooming + panning,overview + detail,focus + context,the cue-based object visualization,and it constructed the funnel model of framework for electronic map navigation technology for the purpose of designing electronic map navigation program with better user experience.What's more,it expounded the classification of geographical tasks,classification of navigation technologies,navigation theory,usability research and evaluation methods and reuse of final design.It also made a preliminary solution and gave the theoretical reference and methodology for the in-depth research on electronic map navigation technology in the future.
