S p For physicians who wish to offer their patients tate-of-the-art therapy based on early detection, ncreased security, and efficiency, BIOTRONIK Berlin, Germany) has developed a unique technolgy and special service. BIOTRONIK Home Monioring (Berlin, Germany) technology provides phyicians with current online information about their acemaker and ICD patients. With Home Monitoring (BIOTRONIK), the implant ends medical and technical data to the BIOTRONIK ardioMessenger, a patient device much like a celluar phone. The data are sent via a special transmitter mbedded in the implant. The CardioMessenger ends these data to the central BIOTRONIK Service enter via the mobile phone network. There, the data re analyzed and compiled into a comprehensive eport called a Cardio Report. Physicians can access his data over a personal, secure Internet site. Event essages are automatically transmitted to the physiian—via fax, email, or SMS. The entire information ow process is fully automated. The Home Monitoring Service facilitates early etection of arrhythmias (eg, atrial fibrillation), herapy monitoring (eg, in the event of changed edication or programming), and technical system hecks (eg, lead and battery status). By evaluating arious parameters such as mean heart rate, numer and duration of atrial tachycardia episodes, and hreshold characteristics, asymptomatic events can e detected and treated. At the same time, online access to Home Monitorng data via the Internet enables physicians to optiize the follow-up process for their patients. When ollow-up visits are scheduled, patients with a regular
