Demography of aging in the United States.

Some characteristics of demographic aging in the United States are discussed. "These are (1) growth in the absolute size of the elderly population (2) changes in the relative number of older persons (i.e. structural change) (3) increases in life expectancy and finally (4) the relative increase of the aged in local populations due to population redistribution." Qualitative factors in planning for an aging society are also considered. (EXCERPT)
