How to avoid sex: the genetic control of gametophytic apomixis.

Apomixis is the natural ability of more than 400 plant species to reproduce asexually through seed ([Nogler, 1984a][1]). Sexual embryos result from the union of male and female gametes, which produces genetically varied offspring. In contrast, apomictic embryos are formed without paternal
