Performance of combined power filters in harmonic compensation of high-power cycloconverter drives

This paper examines the performance of combined power filters in the harmonic compensation of cycloconverter drives. The presence of interharmonics is identified as a problem. Computer simulation results show the compensation is not effective for all low and some higher order frequency interharmonics. For better performance a higher inverter rating is required and combined systems suitable for harmonic compensation and reactive current regulation (active conditioning) should be examined.
