Fractals and Formal Texture Specification

As a rule, the surfaces of real objects are not structureless. In addition to a constant color they have further properties that are commonly summarized under the term texture. Textures are location-dependent variations in color, geometry, or even transparency or surface roughness, and give the characteristic appearance to materials like stone, sand, marble, and textile surfaces.
