Two-dimensional RAKE reception scheme for DS/CDMA systems in DBF antenna configuration

In land mobile radio communications systems, degradation of the instantaneous signal to noise (and interference) power ratio is significant in multipath fading environments. In this paper, a two-dimensional RAKE reception scheme in a digital beam forming (DBF) antenna configuration to be applied to the base station of the DS/CDMA system is proposed. A quantitative evaluation of fading reduction is performed by computer simulation. The proposed system works well even under the condition that the delay spread of the propagation path is small compared with the chip time of the spread spectrum signals, and in environments where the directions of arrival (DOAs) of the multipath waves are concentrated in the direction of a mobile terminal.
