Rack gear tool: approximate profiling method

This paper present an algorithm for rack gear tool's profiling which generates the profiles associated with a couple of a rolling centrodes for example: side mill tool's teeth profile; shift shafts; gears. The proposed algorithm is based on the surfaces enveloping fundamentals principles, but simplifies this problem by proposing an approximate representation of tool's profile using only 3 or 4 points on the profile to be generated. The algorithm is presented as table, where are showed the coefficients of Bezier substitution polynomial. Are presented numerical examples which show that, for some profile types, the rack gear error is small enough regarding the profile calculated by analytical methods. The presented algorithms are characterized by simplicity and by need to known a limited number of points along the profile to be generated.
