A model for computer-based data acquisition and control

This paper describes the theory and ongoing development of a computer-based system for data acquisition and control termed theVIrtualDataAcquisition andControl (VIDAC) system. The VIDAC system has particular application to laboratory experimental research and is currently applied to the field of materials testing. A model is presented and intended to display the basic similarities of data-acquisition algorithms and forms the conceptual basis for the VIDAC system. A discussion of the implementation of this model in computer software is given and two experimental programs in materials testing are described which have used the VIDAC ideology.
