Towards Co-Design of Business Processes and Information Systems Using Web Services

A variety of forces are constantly transforming enterprises, thus, requiring them to constantly adapt to changing business environment. This emergent state requires enterprises to dynamically adjust both business processes and information systems as the environment shifts. Co-design of business processes and information systems seems to provide a reasonable approach to meeting this need. This paper develops requirements for such an approach and assesses the applicability of Web services against those requirements. Assessment suggests that, although Web services facilitate co-design, they do not provide a comprehensive solution. Possible means to augment Web services technologies to support missing requirements are provided
