Range Queries in MANET: Can Information-Centric Networking Help?

As wireless nodes become more powerful, a large volume of diverse content, such as images or videos, become available in a mobile ad hoc network (MANET). It follows that a MANET can largely benefit from the support for "range queries", i.e., a query for content whose attributes are within a requested range. Supporting range queries over MANET is challenging due to node mobility and adverse medium conditions. In this work, we argue that Information- Centric Networking (ICN), a novel networking paradigm that decouples resources from the host they reside on, can enable efficient support for range queries in MANET. Accordingly, we design and evaluate ERMINE, a solution for "Enabling Range queries in MANET with Information-centric NEtworking".
