A novel image cipher based on 3D bit matrix and latin cubes

Abstract This paper proposes a novel image encryption algorithm based on 3D bit matrix and orthogonal Latin cubes. Unlike most of the existing image encryption algorithms, the proposed algorithm treats the original image as a 3D bit matrix, and uses Latin cubes for confusion and diffusion. The utilization of 3D bit matrix and Latin cubes makes the proposed algorithm achieve not only a desirable level of security, but also high efficiency, so the algorithm is suitable for practical application.
