BALLAST TANK COATINGS: EVALUATING AND DOCUMENTING THEIR CONDITION WITH A REMOTE MONITORING SYSTEM

This article provides results of ongoing work on the development of corrosion sensor technology and portable shipboard inspection instrumentation. Corrosion sensor results and discussion are presented concerning data collected from sensors in several test ships and multiple ballast tanks. The remote visual inspection technique is discussed in terms of instrumentation requirements and capabilities for analyzing coating degradation in small and large confined spaces. The discussion is limited to seawater ballast tanks and compensated fuel tanks.
