A code acquisition scheme with interference cancellation for DS-CDMA systems

We propose a code acquisition scheme with interference cancellation (IC) for the initial synchronization of direct sequence-code division multiple access (DS-CDMA) systems. It removes multiple access interference (MAI) due to synchronized users from the received signal prior to code acquisition, and then performs code acquisition. We compare the proposed scheme with the conventional one in terms of the probability of correct acquisition and the timing accuracy. From simulation results, we see that the proposed scheme works significantly better than the conventional one, and also makes possible the full utilization of a given radio resource in DS-CDMA systems.
