Short-circuit interruption performance of thyristor circuit breakers

The paper introduces four related thyristor circuit breaker (TCB) topologies based on the commonly used parallel capacitor current commutation principle. Respective merits of the four topologies analysed and the evaluation of their short circuit performance characteristics is presented. Normalisation of equations result in two design parameters to enable the evaluation of TCB designs. Practical values of these parameters are discussed.<<ETX>>
