NEW CONCEPTS OF YARN HAIRINESS

A study of the distribution of fibres projecting from the core of a yarn along its length shows that these fibres are most numerous at the thickest and least twisted parts of the yarn. The number of projecting fibres per millimetre of yarn length has been used as a new parameter, allowing hairiness to be defined independently of the conditions previously imposed by photometric measurement. Finally, the relation between the coefficient of variation of apparent diameter and that for the number of projecting fibres has been derived.
