EIC Editorial

DEAR Readers, Welcome to the last 2016 issue of the IEEE Transactions on Learning Technologies. This issue completes the 9th year of journal publication. The last issue of the year is the best opportunity to say thanks and to bid farewell to outgoing editorial board members. This year, we want to thank Susan Bull and Patrick Jermann who have completed their 3-year terms as Associate Editors. As TLT board members and AEs, they have helped to increase the representation of such topics as MOOCs, Learning Analytics, and Natural Language technologies among TLT papers. We hope that these topics will stay in focus for our journal over the coming years. This issue is focused on a cluster of emerging topics. Most of the issue comprises a special section on Learning through Wearable Technologies and the Internet of Things, including an introductory paper by the guest editor, Mark Lee. In addition to this special section, the issue also includes an interesting paper by Ildefonso Ruano, Javier G amez, Sebasti an Dormido, and Juan G omez entitled “A Methodology to Obtain Learning Effective Laboratories with Learning Management System Integration” that covers another other popular topic – online laboratories. The paper proposes a methodology to integrate online labs with Learning Management Systems (LMS), with a use-case of a virtual lab for teaching DC motors. The example lab includes automatic evaluation, tracks the progress of learners in the LMS, and can be shared and reused across management systems. Enjoy your reading!
