An operator aid for monitoring and trend detection

Monitoring of current system status and trends in system performance is addressed. In particular, the development of an aid that would provide on a single display gauge an integrated composite representation of the current values of several sensors is discussed. The current values of a set of sensors are viewed as a point in multidimensional space. The technique of multidimensional scaling is proposed as a method for producing a two-dimensional representation of that space. Points in this derived space could then serve as the desired integrated sensor display. The use of this approach for both current state and trend monitoring is examined.<<ETX>>
