RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT OF DC +/- 500KV EXTRUDED CABLES

(Japan) Summary In this report development of DC +/-500 kV extruded cables and factory joints is described. During the development process, insulating materials with low space charge accumulation and high resistivity under DC voltage were selected. The DC +/-500 kV extruded cables with 23mm insulation thickness were designed and extruded with such insulation materials. Factory joints (FJ) were also developed and fabricated using extrusion moulded joint (EMJ) technology. Both DC +/-500 kV extruded cables and FJs were subjected to initial and long-term tests. The results confirmed that the DC +/-500 kV extruded cables and FJs satisfied the required properties for DC +/-500 kV submarine transmission lines.
