What does it take to get undergradautes involved

Rahman Tashakkori received his Ph.D. in computer science in May 2001 from Louisiana State University. From 1996--2000, he worked as an instructor/research associate in the Timbuktu Academy/Department of Physics at Southern University in Baton Rouge. During these years, he mentored both the NASA Sharp and Timbuktu Academy scholars. Since August 2000, he has joined the Department of Computer Science at Appalachian State University in Boone North Carolina. He is a Co-PI on a NSF supported CSEMS program. He is also a Co-PI of a High Performance grant that is supported by the University of North Carolina Office of the President. He was the recipient of the 2004--2005 Strickland Outstanding Young Faculty Award in the College of Arts and Sciences at Appalachian. He encourages undergraduate research as a mechanism to enhance learning.
