Cleanliness of turbine lube oil systems

The late 1960s and early 1970s saw an increase in the number of turbine journal and thrust bearings scored by dirty lube oil systems. In many cases, these resulted in forced outages and extensive repairs on the newer, larger units being placed in service. This paper outlines the results of a broad program to eliminate the cause of contaminated lube oil systems.
