The Effect of Anti-Retroviral Drug Therapy on Hearing in Adults: A Systematic Review Protocol

Review question/objective The objective of this review is to examine the best available evidence on the effects of anti-retroviral drugs on hearing levels of patients. Inclusion criteria Types of participants This review will consider studies that include HIV positive adult patients between the ages of 18 and 50 years; the upper limit is considered to exclude patients with presbyacusis. Types of intervention(s)/phenomena of interest This review will consider studies that evaluate antiretroviral drugs. Comparator HIV positive adult patients between 18 and 50 years not on antiretroviral therapy. Types of outcomes This review will consider studies that examine hearing loss of more than 25dB as determined by Pure Tone Audiometry and Acoustic Brainstem Reflex.
