Adding Industrial Design Subjects to the BE Programme

A shortfall in the development of fundamental design skills in the Mechanical Engineering programme at Monash University prompted the introduction of elements of Industrial Design. Firstly, a course in spatial visualisation was introduced in 1994, comprising drawing, modelling and graphical problem solving. Secondly, a double degree in Engineering and Industrial Design was introduced in 1996. Both initiatives have been successful in satisfying their respective objectives.
