OVERVIEW OF THE NUMERICAL SIMULATIONS OF A HIGH-LIFT-DEVICE NOISE MEASUREMENT MODEL

Overview of the computational fluid dynamics (CFD) research activities, associated with a simplified high-lift-device wind tunnel model (OTOMO) is described. Three different CFD codes are used to investigate the flow around the OTOMO focusing on different aspects. First, two different codes, UPACS (structured grid) and TAS (unstructured grid), codes are used to estimate the aerodynamic performance. Secondly, unsteady flow simulation is performed to understand the noise generation mechanism around OTOMO, specially, slat noise. For this purpose, UPACSLES code is used. Validation of the computational results is performed through comparison with the experimental results. And finally, noise reduction devices are designed and evaluated with the support of CFD. All of the computations are performed parallel to the wind tunnel experiments, which led the overall program successful.
