A Strategy for Collapsing OS Integrated Transport Network™ dual carriageways.

The research topic of this paper is vector-based automated model generalisation of OS Integrated Transport Network™. Two subsets of the road network are selected to perform generalisation on, firstly the dual carriageway road sections are tracked and collapsed to a single centreline representing the dual carriageway, and secondly the traffic island sections are similarly collapsed. A method of doing this successfully using stroke type objects, created with the constraint of one-way direction, is described. These strokes are paired on the basis of their end connections and collapsed (or merged) to a single stroke. This centre line is connected to the road network.
