THE problem of determining the distribution of flow for specific conditions among the various pipes of a water distribution network is a difficult one. Although many methods of analysis have been used, each method has certain limitations. The method of analysis most frequently employed today is the Hardy Cross method. This is a method of controlled trial and error by which systematic corrections are applied to an initial set of assumed flows. To be successively applied to the flows, the correction is computed by use of the Hardy Cross equation:
