A Model of Image DiSplay in the Optimized Overdrive Method for Motion Picture Quality Improvements in Liquid Crystal Devices : Optics and Quantum Electronics

Motion picture images are related to device optical response by adopting a statistical distribution model, in which there are linear relationships in the mean and variance of two distributions with the motion velocity as the proportional constant, and the total optical intensity is conserved. This novel theory is applied to evaluate motion picture quality, as optimizing a well-known overdrive scheme. Insertion of a blanking period in each refresh cycle leads to less broadened and less shifted motion picture images, as demonstrated by a pi-cell device. Efficiently optimized overdrive scheme produces comparable improvement along with excellent intensity reproduction.
