AN INTERACTIVE CAD/CAM SYSTEM FOR DESIGNING AND MANUFACTURING SCULPTURED SURFACES

Abstract This paper reports on the primary goals and basic capabilities of an experimental system for designing and manufacturing of sculptured surfaces. The objects to be manufactured are stamping and forging dies. The interactive design proceeds by creating and manipulating cubic B-spline curves and surfaces. Two alternative solutions of generating tool-path and some relevant details are also presented. Finally, we summarize the recent developments relating to certain geometrical and technological extensions of the implementation for applying our CAD/CAM system in the industrial environment.
