The Propagation of Hydraulic Disturbances and Flow Rate Reconstruction in Activated Sludge Plants

Abstract Hydraulic propagation through activated sludge systems is considered. Non‐linear dynamical hydraulic models are developed and verified using plant data. These models are used to calculate intermediate flow rates for control purposes. The consequences of man‐made hydraulic disturbances in association with weir design lead to a discussion of how the hydraulics influence both design and operation of treatment plants.
