A circular polarization reconfigurable substrate integrated waveguide antenna

In this paper, a cavity-backed substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) antenna with two reconfigurable circular polarizations is proposed and investigated. The circular polarizations are generated by a combination of complementary square split ring on the top layer and a shorting via between the top layer and the ground plane which introduces current perturbation. The polarization states of the proposed antenna can be dynamically switched between left-handed circular polarization (LHCP) and right-handed circular polarization (RHCP) by selectively connecting one of the two symmetrical shorting vias to the bottom ground plane. To validate our design, the proposed antenna is fabricated and measured. The simulated and experimental results are observed, which illustrates good performance of the proposed antenna. This single-port antenna polarization reconfigurable is useful for the design of array antenna for wireless applications.
