An experimental study on creep of concrete filled steel pipes

Abstract The efficiency of applying composite members as an alternative of improving the compressive strength of steel structures has already been proved by several researches and experiments. However, not much has been done concerning the creep phenomenon in such structures. The present paper reports on a series of experiments that was carried out in an attempt to clarify the time-dependent behavior of concrete filled steel members through a viscoelastic model. Creep coefficients thus obtained were then compared to those recommended by the Japanese Specifications for Highway Bridges. Comments on the effects of concrete shrinkage observed during the experimental measurements were also added.
