Experimental Implementation of a Ratio Image Depth Sensor

We describe a novel variant of depth measurement by optical triangulation in which information is recorded simultaneously from an entire scene rather than point-by-point or plane-by-plane. An experimental implementation, using standard components, forms a 512×512 pixel depth image in 30 seconds, with an average random deviation of about ± 0.7% of the depth of the workspace.
