Amplifying and Evanescent Waves in Hall Thrusters

1discovered a criterion that permits to identify both amplifying and evanescent waves. In order to obtain the dispersion relation as a function of the fundamental properties of the thruster, we consider a linearization of the Hall discharge equations. The fluid-system describing the physics of the Hall discharge can be written using continuity and momentum equations for the neutrals, continuity and momentum equation for ions, continuity, momentum and energy equation for electrons, and Maxwell equations. A numerical technique for eigenvalues tracking in the complex plane was developed and reported for typical HET conditions.
