An extension of the shallow to the non-shallow stiffness matrix for a cylindrical shell finite element

Abstract A stiffness matrix for a non-shallow cylindrical element is developed. A finite-element procedure using this matrix is used to obtain a solution for a barrel vault. Comparison of this solution with that previously obtained 1 shows a considerable improvement when the number of elements into which the shell is divided is small. Slightly faster convergence to true results is also indicated.
