The National Energy Research Supercomputer Center

Originally called the Controlled Thermonuclear Research Computer Center and then the National Magnetic Fusion Energy Computer Center, the National Energy Research Supercomputer Center (NERSC) was formed in 1974 as a response to the computational demands of the Magnetic Fusion Energy (MFE) program.
