The use of heterogeneous strain fields for the characterization of composite materials

This paper deals with the measurement of parameters governing anisotropic elastic properties from mechanical tests which give rise to heterogeneous strain fields. The main interest of the procedure presented here is to test a single plate specimen. The link between the measurements and the unknown parameters is direct. This feature avoids the recursive finite element calculations usually used. One example shows the relevance of this approach.
