Generalized average model of DC wind turbine with consideration of electromechanical transients

Suitable model of the DC wind turbine is need for studying the dynamics in a DC wind farm containing many such DC wind turbines. This paper presents a generalized average model of the DC wind turbine taking into consideration of electromechanical transients. In the proposed wind turbine model, the power conversion system is simplified based on the average model and it can be adapted to any DC wind turbine with an active front-end and two step-up levels. Detailed control schemes of the DC wind turbine have been proposed, including the pitch control, MPPT control and DC-link voltage control. Based on PSCAD/EMTDC, simulation cases with varying wind conditions have been conducted to show the real electromechanical transients and improved simulation speed of the developed model.
