The sewage from paper mill is lead bearing waste water, the question whether the rice watered by sewage is safe to eat becomes a focus. So, the amou nt of lead in planted rice watered by this sewage nearby a paper mill in Yinchua n was determined by ICP-AES. The national standard for the highest amount of le ad in food is 0.4 mg/kg and in fodder is 5 mg/kg. The results showed:the amount of lead in this rice was 4.5 mg/kg,it was 10 times higher than the national st andard for food and was bellow the national standard for fodder.This means it ca n't be eaten,but can be used as fodder.
