Spatial envelop-free nonlinear joint transform correlation

Abstract We present a simple procedure for removing the spatial envelop from the joint power spectrum in a joint transform correlator. By using this procedure, an improvement in recognition capability is obtained. The main advantages of removing the spatial-envelop are the absence of redundant peaks, which occur when the joint power spectrum is binarized, and the simplicity of its implementation in comparison with spatial filtering methods. Simulation and experimental results are provided.
