Crowd Simulation Applied to Emergency and Evacuation Scenarios

Abstract Crowded spaces are prone to accidents and many casualties in case of fire or other emergency situations. They can happen in large buildings or urban spaces. Predicting crowds’ behavior is crucial for creating adequate simulators that practitioners can use for evaluating evacuation scenarios in such emergency cases. On the basis of a literature review of existing approaches to tackle this issue, a simulator called ModP was devised. A new model was added to allow the creation and configuration of different agent types. Some experiments were carried out using an easy syntax to provide the designers with a more realistic simulation. Preliminary results are presented and discussed. Trends and future directions as well as new developments are presented.
