Routing and Wavelength Assignment Incorporating the Efiects of Crosstalk Enhancement by Fiber Nonlinearity

In all-optical networks, signals are prop- agated through switches with no electrical regenera- tion. The switches used in all-optical networks are prone to signal leaking; due to the absence of electri- cal regeneration, these leaked signals, called crosstalk signals, may therefore propagate through hundreds to several thousands of kilometers. Crosstalk may be enhanced by flber nonlinearities during the prop- agation, hence severely impairing network perfor- mance. In this paper, we develop a routing and wave- length assignment algorithm for transparent optical networks that incorporates the efiects of this com- pounded crosstalk.
