OPERATIVE FLUID THERAPY II

N OUR 1966 report in Anesthesia and I Analgesia,' we reported a relationship between intravenous fluid volume administered and urine output in 23 patients; they received 7 to 35 ml. per kg. per hour and excreted urine at the rates of 1.27 to 17 ml. per kg. per hour. We equated the relationship as F = 1OW + 1.33 U (fluid per hour equals 10 times the weight in kilograms plus 1.33 times the urine output per hour).
