The Interval Modulation System For The Ultra-Wideband Vehicular Radar

Since the (FCC) Federal Communications Commission approved the (UWB) Ultra-wideband application into the civilian areas, research on the UWB vehicular radar aroused much interest. Using of vehicular sensing radar is an important method in preventing the occurrence of traffic accidents, and enhance the radar's performance can directly improve the effectiveness of the collision prevention system. Ultra-wideband is a relatively new technology adopted in ITS, it can make radar higher resolution, lower power, more immunity to interference and so on. In the UWB radar system, narrow pulse string is the fundamental source of all sensing and detecting information. The narrow pulses string is transmitted to the space under specific order, and the interval modulation circuit establishes this order and triggered the pulse generator radiate according to the specific sequence. The paper introduces the basic concept and the character of the UWB vehicular radar, presents the interval modulation's function in the system, and describes the proposed system in detail. Compared with traditional methods based on analog modules, the proposed system uses almost all digital circuit to achieve the modulating. Measured results of the prototype circuit are presented near the end of the article. Finally the core elements of interval modulation design in the UWB vehicular radar have been analyzed, the section need to be improved and the future trends have been discussed
