A method of realistic leaves modeling based on point cloud

Leaves are important parts of trees which have been researched on modeling for decades. However, their authenticities have not been satisfactorily resolved. We present a novel method of realistic leaves modeling based on the point cloud in this paper. Firstly, the veins and margins are extracted by using image processing from the leaf point cloud which are denoised and smoothed. At the same time, leaves point clouds are simplified except the margins and veins. Then, the texture mapping method is implemented to the simplified point cloud data on the basis of triangulation. Finally, different shapes of leaves are generated by using Laplacian mesh deformation algorithm and grow to the trunk model. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method can rebuild the realistic leaves quickly and accurately.
