The role of interactive computer-assisted testing (ICAT) as an effective adjunct to traditional methods of instruction in an introductory educational psychology course for students enrolled in a teacher education program is discussed. Previous studies suggest ICAT is an effective instructional strategy and evaluation method for large numbers of students in introductory courses where existing computing facilities are available. Results of the study indicate that high criterion levels for mastery produce improved subsequent performance.
